"The Fundamentals Certificate gave me a good overview of Early Childhood Education. The faculty was knowledgeable and patient. They were even able to make the 'dry lesson' on early childhood theories come alive!"

Early childhood diplomas 学前教育大专文凭

"As an AIC student, I've learned to understand how children develop and why they respond in the way that they do. I've also learnt to never underestimate children; they constantly surprise me with their intelligence and vocabulary. Students at AIC don't learn by rote; we need to analyse and explain situations. For instance, understanding why a child is behaving in a certain manner. I've also picked up professional development skills like communication and presentation skills in school. In addition, we have a first-aid course to cope with any potential emergency situations.

Apart from industry recognition, their lecturers are also equipped with decades of experience in the industry, so they really bring the early childhood education theories that we read about to life. Lastly, I could choose to pursue my degree at AIC after I'm done with my diploma should I decide to.

Student life at AIC is great – it's very vibrant. My class has previously organised a Christmas party for Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centres (AMKFSC) and I was one of the three co-hosts of the party and helped to prepare songs, craft activities and games for the kids there. We also did a flash mob at Compass Point for the AMKFSC kids earlier this year and learnt a lot from that experience; it really reminded me that children are at the heart of everything that we do."

"The work-study model of the Apprentice programme gave me good grounding in early childhood education because I spent three weekday afternoons attending classes at Asian International College and worked the remaining weekdays at Learning Vision. This allowed me to put into practice what I've learned in the classroom and gave me an understanding of what goes on in the actual workplace, so you know what to expect after graduation."

"I started my course at Asian International College in early 2010 and it has certainly been a really valuable experience in my learning journey. AIC met all my expectations for an educational institution: comprehensive curriculum, experienced lecturers and a dynamic learning environment. I’ve gained a better understanding of children as holistic individuals, as well as practical knowledge such as teaching skills and classroom management for young children. I would definitely recommend AIC for those who want a career in the field of early childhood education."

"I really valued the opportunities to interact with teachers from other preschools during my time in the College. When we were struggling to cope with the topic we were assigned, the lecturer guided and encouraged us to look at it from a different angle. I appreciated the guidance given by all my lecturers at the College. That is also the reason why I chose to continue to further my education with them."

"The zealous and inspiring lecturers, well-modulated course and supportive administrators have made my learning experience at the College an enriching and enjoyable one!"

"Both the centre staff and the lecturers are very professional in that they always endeavour to deliver a high standard of management, training and assessment. I find the course enriching, enjoyable, as well as rewarding. After the positive experience, I am excited about the practicum and hope to be able to apply the knowledge that I have learnt during the course."

BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education

"I would like to commend the faculty at Asian International College, in particular Mrs. Nancy Lee-Wong and Ms. DK Gowri Danakodi.

Nancy was a good tutor who really guided us patiently and opened our eyes to many more insights in approaching our subject study. Gowri also inspired me by sharing her heartfelt experiences. Her passion for doing what she really believes in has left a great impression on me."

Nicole Koh
[Class of 2011, BA (Hons) ECE]

"I cannot thank Asian International College enough for putting up comprehensive and relevant courses for each and every level. I will look back with fond memories of the valuable opportunities which my studies offered - engaging in deep and meaningful learning and reflections, expanding my professional network, and articulating and clarifying my perspectives on various educational issues.

I would also like to thank the lecturers and tutors/mentors who shared so selflessly, especially Ms Nancy Lee-Wong. I cannot thank Nancy enough for her guidance during the writing of my Research Paper. She helped us to keep on the timeline religiously and met with us individually to patiently guide us through the complicated and rigorous process of writing a research paper. By the end of our course, Nancy was more than just a tutor ... she had become our friend."

[Class of 2011, BA (Hons) ECE]

"I am well aware of the critical importance of my professional growth and its impact on my staff and student body, which is why I took up the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Early Childhood Education at Asian International College. My degree at AIC has equipped me with the relevant knowledge and skills that can be applied directly to my job. In particular, my studies on the 'Cognitive Development in Children' have aided me greatly in my interaction with the children with special needs who are enrolled in the kindergarten.

Juggling the demands of work and family in addition to my studies has been challenging, but I am very glad I made that decision, for the experience has indeed been fulfilling."

Hephzi Tee
[Class of 2011, BA (Hons) ECE]

"In 2010, Busy Bees Southeast Asia (formerly known as Knowledge Universe) offered me a Star Award (an internal award recognising high-performing staff) which allowed me to take the BA programme with full sponsorship. I decided to pursue the BA since the course duration was only 10 months. Moreover, I was further convinced of the course credibility after the University of Wales (UOW) Dean spoke to us. We were given a clear picture of how UOW ensured high standards in overseas institutions, and what they as a university stood for in the UK.

I was already 53 years old when I started the course, so it was a fulfilment of a lifelong dream to wear a mortar hat. I think several of my fellow principals were inspired by me too as they felt it must be a dream worth pursuing. For those of us who already have the Diploma in Preschool Education - Learning, it is really a relief to receive accreditation after only 10 months of study."

Sally Pang
[Class of 2010, BA (Hons) ECE]

"One of the goals I had in my career as a preschool educator was to upgrade my professional qualifications. The BA programme presented me with that golden opportunity. As the part-time BA programme with University of Wales was specially tailored for working professionals, it offered me the flexibility to juggle my personal and work commitments, hence allowing me to manage my time effectively. The experience for me was, on the whole, a win-win situation, because I have learnt to think more critically about issues affecting children and families, and am now able to place myself in a better position to speak more confidently for them."

Siti Asjamiah Asmuri
[Class of 2010, BA (Hons) ECE]

"I am currently pursuing my Masters in Education with an Early Childhood Major from NIE. With all the recent, exciting changes that are taking place in the ECE industry, I believe that with the right education and work experience, I will be able to create new opportunities for myself."

Chitra Venkatesh
[Class of 2009, BA (Hons) ECE]

"As Confucius said, 'It doesn't matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop.' I applied for the BA course not only to enhance my critical acumen, but also to expand my subject knowledge in early childhood. It has also equipped me with the skills in centre management, administration and research."

"Our lecturer is very friendly and humble. She encourages everyone to respect our peers and the children in our centre, and helped us to understand why it is important to take this course and upgrade ourselves. "

Anna Ong
(Class of 2014, WSQ Adopt the Early Years Development Framework)

"EYDF is very important as it helps educators to continually develop and provide care to children aged 3 years and below. Although the programme was only 16 hours long, it was packed with comprehensive broad topics about the 5 pillars in the framework."

Yvonne Tan
(Class of 2012, WSQ Adopt the Early Years Development Framework)

"Being a centre supervisor, I am required to work with children from Infant Care to Kindergarten levels. The WSQ programme taught me how to identify children with special learning needs, even young toddlers. Now, I'm better equipped with the knowledge and skills to work with them. I highly recommend this programme."

Joanna Koh
(Class of 2011, WSQ Special Education Units)

"When Asian International College introduced the WSQ Special Education Units, I signed up immediately. The programme taught me to identify when certain children have unique needs and how to address these needs appropriately. The lecturers also taught me the importance of making eye contact with the child and engaging them. I learned that early intervention could make all the difference. It's important to learn to understand your students' needs at an early stage, and how to effectively engage them and lead them on the correct path.

Enrolling in AIC's WSQ Special Education Units helped me learn new techniques and methods to address such sensitive situations. I feel blessed to have the knowledge and skills from the course to educate all kinds of children, and this brings me a tremendous amount of satisfaction and joy."

Santhi Suppiah
(Class of 2010, WSQ Special Education Units)

"After teaching in a child care centre for a while, I had the opportunity to nurture a boy who was diagnosed to have autistic tendencies. I found it difficult to conduct my lessons and his classmates found him terribly disruptive, so I made a decision to learn more about children with special needs. Today, I am glad that I have done so."

Lee Fei Minn
(Class 2009, WSQ Special Education Units)

"I've always wanted to work with children with special needs because I feel they are often neglected by mainstream schools. This programme thus equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills to give me a head-start in the field."

Management courses

We were chosen as the winners of the 4th Al Gore Sustainable Technology Competition and represented India on the global stage at Carnegie Mellon University in 2011.

We were also awarded a cash prize to help with our project. We know that the Sustainability Development course from this Postgrad Certificate in International Business helped us significantly in the conception of our plan and the presentation skills you have so strongly advocated we develop helped us in clinching the prize."

Partners

"We have specially collaborated with Asian International College (AIC) in our Place and Train programme for Early Childhood Teachers. Knowledge Universe Singapore (KUS) has benefited greatly from the support rendered by the AIC team in recruiting apprentice teachers eligible for the Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education - Teaching course.

The programme was designed to facilitate our teachers' skills and knowledge, coupled with specific organisational standard operating procedures. Delivered with abundant opportunities for hands-on experience, the programme enhanced our teachers' capabilities and shortened their learning curve, thereby increasing the productivity of both the organisation and our teachers. The 300 practicum hours required in the Diploma course was scheduled after the completion of appropriate modules, allowing teachers to fully benefit from the exposure to best practices at many of KUS' centres.

AIC has provided KUS with tremendous support for the recruitment of our teachers through its various marketing platforms and activities. The College organised several career fairs aimed at matching potential teachers who meet our minimum criteria for KUS' review and selection. Through the efforts put in by the dedicated AIC faculty, our teachers have benefitted from the experience and knowledge imparted during the course.

Our success in recruitment today would not have been possible without the strong support and high quality service provided by AIC in all areas, and we look forward to many more years of collaboration."
